The Golden Visa, also known as residency for investment in Spain, is a special type of residency that can be used by citizens from outside the European Union who want to live in Spanish territory, through a significant investment in our country. In WeRelocateBCN we explain how this programme works.
In general, obtaining a residence permit for non-EU citizens is a rather complicated and bureaucratic process. That is why this way of getting a visa is becoming a faster and easier way.
The Golden Visa is regulated by the Entrepreneurs’ Law 14/2013, which regulates the residence permit for investors.
The difference from other visas is that the Golden Visa allows you to live and work in our country for 2 years (instead of the one year allowed by most visas) and after those two years you can renew it for another 5 years (as long as you can prove that you still have the property you invested in), and from then on you can apply for permanent residency.
In order to apply for the Golden Visa you only need to invest the amount of 500,000 euros in real estate, and you will automatically be granted a residence permit through an easy application process. One of the advantages of this visa is that you do not need to be a tax resident in our country, but visiting Spain just once a year to be able to carry out the renewal procedures is enough.
Regarding the possibility of bringing the family over, the Golden Visa allows for a joint application in which both the spouse and the children can be included, who would obtain residency in our country with that single investment.
